The cyclist manifesto

2 Comments 15 April 2012

Choose life. Choose a frame. Choose the material. Choose a fucking expensive wheel set, choose work stands, grips, carbon drop bars and ergo trainers. Choose good health, adrenaline rushes and flat tires. Choose hipsters with their fixies. Choose a collection of locks. Choose spandex and matching caps. Choose a collection of water bottles that reflect [...]

Bike ergonomics: Cockpit upgrade

0 Comments 15 April 2012

Bikes are simply a collection of parts forming a whole, so upgrading for ergonomics is easy. For some reason people seem to think that their bikes are permanent and nothing can be changed. Since I’m a tall person with wide shoulders, I wanted to upgrade the cockpit of my Cube hard tail. The original configurations [...]

Friday video: Bicycle repair man with Monty Python

0 Comments 06 April 2012

There are only a few comedy laws, but most of them involve the Monty Python troupe. Since it’s Easter, we wanted to be a bit sillier than usual, so we are giving you the classic Bicycle repair man sketch from Monty Python’s Flying Circus that came out about 50 years ago, which you can see [...]

Love local bike shops and they love you back

0 Comments 04 April 2012

We’ve always loved our local bike shops, they are not only beautiful and talented, running a bike shop requires passion and dedication like no other. We’ve written about them several times (like here, here and especially here) and we are glad to be doing it again. We have a friend called Nelli, a Finn who set [...]

Spring has been cancelled

0 Comments 02 April 2012

You know that feeling of Spring blooming. The days get longer and the temperature climbs slowly but steadily towards double digits and it’s time to clean the bikes up. Lube and clean the chains, index those cassettes properly and then put them on the balcony to let the sun gently dry your clean babies up. [...]

Finale Ligure (ITA) – Colla di Magnone

0 Comments 31 March 2012

Starting off from Finale along the Rio la Fiumata towards Vezzi with a nice warmup on the road.  The blue mtb trail (indicated 2 red dots) towards San Lorenzino is currently inaccessible due to rocks blocking the path – other option is of course hike a bike for a km. Instead I continued towards Portio [...]

Pregnant cycling

Now you might say that this topic is not a subtle hint to my grown belly or an usual subject for us, but it has become a question I need your help with. My wife and me will become happy biking parents in July, but before that we want to cycle as long as we [...]

Canyon Nerve XC 9.0

My 2011 Nerve arrived in time, as promised by Canyon, to fly out to Malaga (Spain) early April. From the box to the bikebag, off for a real  test on the trails. The bike delivered was as described on the site with the exception of the seatpost which was a regular aluminum Irridium instead of [...]

About Comingthru

Coming Thru (or Coming Through - as that URL was taken) is a daily updated bike magazine - a collection of writings and links that relate to biking in its every form. The idea started from when Maarten met Markus decided to finally start collecting the things we like about bikes and talk about our everyday adventures in dodging moving objects at high speeds. The site is run by a collage of cyclists, most notably by Canadian Johanna MacDonald, Belgian Maarten Patteeuw and Finnish Markus Sandelin.

It all started in the spring of 2010, after a record breaking snowy winter when Markus bought a house 25 kilometers from the office and decided to handle the commuting with a bicycle. It turned out the bike wasn’t up to standards for that kind of stress and the first weeks were more tragicomic than glorious. Thus the idea began to brew to actually document this journey.
