No Comments 21 April 2012

As we speculated two years ago, twenty-niners are here to stay and we are glad that they are. We had the opportunity to test ride some new Merida bikes coming to the market this year, one of them was the best non-team model 29″ Big Nine Carbon 3000-D from the 2012 range and four hours in […]

Erenpreiss trendy retro bikes from Latvia

2 Comments 16 April 2012

It looks like the trend of retro bikes returning strongly (like our Finnish Pelago bicycles) is continuing, this time from the small country of Latvia. Ērenpreiss is a brand founded in 1927 by a middle-aged gentleman called Gustavs Ērenpreiss. He thought that he would join the massive cycling revolution of the early 20th century and he founded […]

The cyclist manifesto

2 Comments 15 April 2012

Choose life. Choose a frame. Choose the material. Choose a fucking expensive wheel set, choose work stands, grips, carbon drop bars and ergo trainers. Choose good health, adrenaline rushes and flat tires. Choose hipsters with their fixies. Choose a collection of locks. Choose spandex and matching caps. Choose a collection of water bottles that reflect […]

Bike ergonomics: Cockpit upgrade

No Comments 15 April 2012

Bikes are simply a collection of parts forming a whole, so upgrading for ergonomics is easy. For some reason people seem to think that their bikes are permanent and nothing can be changed. Since I’m a tall person with wide shoulders, I wanted to upgrade the cockpit of my Cube hard tail. The original configurations […]

Mountain biking with one arm? Why not.

No Comments 10 April 2012

Tom Wheeler got four of the five nerves controlling his right arm severed and his hand is and will be mostly paralyzed for the rest of his life. Still that doesn’t Tom from riding his bike, in the forest with the boys. Total respect. Check out part two from Vimeo by clicking right about here. […]

Friday video: Bicycle repair man with Monty Python

No Comments 06 April 2012

There are only a few comedy laws, but most of them involve the Monty Python troupe. Since it’s Easter, we wanted to be a bit sillier than usual, so we are giving you the classic Bicycle repair man sketch from Monty Python’s Flying Circus that came out about 50 years ago, which you can see […]

Love local bike shops and they love you back

No Comments 04 April 2012

We’ve always loved our local bike shops, they are not only beautiful and talented, running a bike shop requires passion and dedication like no other. We’ve written about them several times (like here, here and especially here) and we are glad to be doing it again. We have a friend called Nelli, a Finn who set […]

Spring has been cancelled

No Comments 02 April 2012

You know that feeling of Spring blooming. The days get longer and the temperature climbs slowly but steadily towards double digits and it’s time to clean the bikes up. Lube and clean the chains, index those cassettes properly and then put them on the balcony to let the sun gently dry your clean babies up. […]

App review: Bike Repair HD

No Comments 01 April 2012

While some of us might be completely in a zen-like agreement with their rear derailleur, but there are much more of those who are more in tune with their chocolate pudding than a spanner in the derailleur. There are lots of Youtube videos and web sites like ours, but sometimes it’s good to have a […]

About Comingthru

Coming Thru (or Coming Through - as that URL was taken) is a daily updated bike magazine - a collection of writings and links that relate to biking in its every form. The idea started from when Maarten met Markus decided to finally start collecting the things we like about bikes and talk about our everyday adventures in dodging moving objects at high speeds. The site is run by a collage of cyclists, most notably by Canadian Johanna MacDonald, Belgian Maarten Patteeuw and Finnish Markus Sandelin.

It all started in the spring of 2010, after a record breaking snowy winter when Markus bought a house 25 kilometers from the office and decided to handle the commuting with a bicycle. It turned out the bike wasn’t up to standards for that kind of stress and the first weeks were more tragicomic than glorious. Thus the idea began to brew to actually document this journey.
